Why do artists like Jay-z, Eminem, and Lil Wayne choose to rap about nothing?

Lil wayne did just drop an album about absolutely nothing, but I really can't understand what you're talking about in regards to Jay or Em..and even if they were "rapping about nothing" they have the type of longevity in the game that would actually warrant being short on things to say.

One of the worse threads ever.

What do you want these guys to rap about?

I just don't understand how subject matter is a legitimate criticism in rap

I'm wrong for wanting Jay-z to step out of his comfort zone and take a risk with his music. I want Jay to stop playing with me and use wordplay and wit that I know he possesses. I'm about to give up on duke seriously and just move on and not care about his music going forward. Eminem is a rap genius he could do a lot more with his art than what he gives you....is pretty much all I'm saying. Dude use to push the envelope and now he's just content being a part of the crowd. Lil Wayne is more of a hype thing...everybody tunes in to dude when he releases music. He could easily put out something worth listening to instead he chooses to play with it and people eat it up.

It's not about making conscious music its about artists reaching a certain level and being unable to stop putting out predictable mundane music. Jay said himself he would rather rap like the Commons and Talib, but he's at a point where he could do that now. Fans of other genres don't go through this BS because we are the only superficial genre out there. Yeah Magna Carta Holy Grail is decent...but at this point who wants just decent playable music from Jay-z? I rather duke just hang it up if this is the level he's at right now.

I've been forced to let these dudes go and move on and find artists who are putting out music that feels genuine, creative, and fresh.
