It came from the east coast prison belt aka "Up North" and Rikers Island. If you couldn't shoot anyone, you have to stab or slice them. This culture was waaaaaay before the UBN hitting NYC.

I never understood why the "sliced" got the same respect as "the slicer", it reminds me of the Jay-Z line about the shot vs. the shooter. If you got sliced that means you LOST and if you did slicing that means you WON. It's also proof that you "banged" someone and you get stripes for that, however, those who got oxed never forget or forgive who did it and 9 times out of 10 there is always revenge. Hence Cuban Linx never reconciling with Fat Joe. Some things you can't let go of.

In NYC, we learned how to use them bangers early. We even kept them joints in our mouths, Gem Star was the brand we most people used. Also making them joints out of tooth brushes was good too, even straws for beverages. NYC dudes get early education on razors, drugs, and guns. Oh BTW, another name for a razor is a "gun" too
