Why do fans get so mad when a player goes where he wants?

I never understood this...when a play has a choice for once he may look around and and say.I like this city more than the other place where I was.....but then you have the It their life why should we care about legacy.....I got peoples saying howard leaving the lakers would be awful for him...what about what makes him happy?
