To be fair, certain publications like Rolling Stone and Pitchfork HAVE challenged close minded Rock/Indie fans to give hip hop a chance by properly reviewing/recommending hip hop albums, ranking them alongside classic Rock/Non-Rap albums on All Time lists, and letting more hip hop fans become journalists and writers for their platforms.
Initially, it was met with tons of backlash with closed minded "Rap is crap" fans thinking that they both fell off for giving more attention to hip hop but it slowly became the norm for them to cover hip hop as much as rock.
I think people who only listen to one genre will eventually get shamed for it at some point but by different people.
Only exception is International music. Nobody's going to shame a Dominican, Jamaican, or Colombian who only listening to Bachata, Dancehall, or Cumbia.
