Why do New Yorkers think it's cool to pay high rent prices

I love it here. But it's true that your money goes a long way elsewhere.
Average home price in my county is something like 400k.
The town I live in is closer to 500k.
They built some homes near my old high school that now sell for about 1.2 million.

It sounds nice but if you're trying to start out in a home it's tough.
A friend of mine moved back home to Kentucky. 400k down there probably buys a palace.
The other day I watched a show on HGTV and this woman bought a house in Decatur, outside of ATL for a shade over 100k I think.

What's the nice area of ATL? I heard it was Buckhead.

only place i would live besides the south is the west.

Our cost of living is like any other city, it's based on spending habits of the local economy. Ours just happens to be the largest in the United States ...New York is actually the most affordable city in the US, and what you get in return in terms of quality of life is unmatched. That's why everyone from around the world wants to visit.
