Why do people act like Jackson is a better coach than Popovich?

Is it just the rings? I was too young to really take in the bulls teams back in their day but as far as watching the Lakers it didnt ever seem like Phil Jackson was that phenomenal with in-game decision-making or getting the best out of his players. Yea he had the triangle or whatever but he wasnt even the creator was he? He always seemed like just an over-glorified, well-respected manager of the players on the Lakers.

You look at Popovich though and you see exactly what the importance of coaching is. The inbounding plays, the zone, the screens, the picks etc etc. This guy is a master building a system where everybody can benefit. Put Leonard or Dejuan Blair back then on the Raptors or even a team like Utah and hes an average player. But with Popovich you'd swear that Leonard has next when everyone retires. :russ: So what is it? Why does Phil Jackson get more love than Greg?

Phil Jackson is just a great psychologist with the right temperment for handling superstar personalities. He got the triangle from Tex Winter. He's no pop when it comes to strategy and adjustments.

Phil Jackson is just the luckiest Coach in NBA history. Not many people were fortunate enough to have Jordan and Pippen fall into their hands and then have Shaq and Kobe fall right into their lap right afterwards

Larry Brown is a better coach than Phil.

A great coach is someone who can take average/bum teams and make them great, which is exactly what he did with the Pacers, Sixers and Pistons

Pop has done in the NBA what great college football coaches have done.... Build great programs that keep his teams in contention for the title....

Him and his staff's ability to develop players is second to none.

Other coaches couldn't win with Jordan and the role players on those bulls teams changed several times. Same with the Lakers.

Luck will get you 2 ro 3 titles maybe. Jackson 3 peated 3 different times. :mjpls:

That Pistons team went to the ECF the year before Larry got there and went to another level after getting Sheed during the middle of that year.

I agree with all of that. But I gotta say, when they mike him up for his locker-room or sideline pump'em up speeches, he sounds a little awkward. :ohhh:The good stuff happens on the clipboard and in player development. Which is where it matters most, I guess.

I think it's because phil is into that "woo woo" spiritual nonsense and people think he is some type of basketball guru. I still crack up when i see that clip of him waving incense into the players lockers :dead: dude was a cornball.
