People always be like "black people need to learn how to code"

Like how many professional coders do you see with million dollar homes and shyt?

What non business savvy coder is running shyt in this country?

Its good to have the skill, but it certainly isnt the lotto ticket alot of you cert nikkas make it out to be

And also, udemy is having a $10 sale on all these fire ass courses

Online Courses - Anytime, Anywhere | Udemy

I bought these 3:
The Web Developer Bootcamp $200 $10.00

Complete Linux Bootcamp for Beginners $200 $10.00

The Complete Web Developer Course 2.0 $200 $10.00

Yea i know, the nerve of this nikka making a thread in the locker room that aint got shyt to do with wenches or c00ns or peckerwoods, but instead about educating each other.

I'd say if your black and are in certain industries or want to get in, then yep you do need coding skills.

It's a skill worth having. And if you're shyt hot you can move around and get your salary up. As someone with coding skills can fit into pretty much any company and work and solve workflows and other problems.

You mean just like everyone else in those certain industries? :what:

You tryin to make this sound like it only applies to black people and nobody else in those industries needs to learn how to code.:mjlol:

Coding is an increasingly valuable skill for which there will be more need than supply for the foreseeable future. In the context of an economy where whites still unfortunately wield a disproportionate amount of power, having an skill set that is hard to replace is going to be very attractive for an oppressed group such as ourselves. Also attractive is that it is one of the that is more merit-based fields, fields where black people tend to due well due to the harder metrics and less room for discrimination e.g. sports, certs, medical fields. Another bonus is that nearly anyone with the proper determination and grit can learn it without having to be 'accepted' into an a university that again provides room for discrimination.

Taken together, it's no wonder why more and more black people are taking a hard look at learning programming skills.

Ha obviously not. But the OP's question was focused on the idea that Black people are told they need to be able to code. We're already at a slight disadvantage when going for jobs, knowing coding is a valuable additional skill that a good employer will take on board.

I think OP is overestimating how many human beings know how to properly code, even in 2017.

This isn't like being a laywer were there are a dime a dozen now (they still make ~180k out of lawschool so they aint trippin).
This is still a very valuable and underutilized skillset.

When this changes, the job market will reflect it, but its still good easy money as of today.

Because it's a great skill to learn that has seemingly unlimited applications.

The barrier to entry is relatively low and your effort and creativity are largely the only limiting factors in making significant monetary gains.

Compared to other lucrative fields, the barrier of entry is relatively low, the pay for the entry level is pretty good, the pay gets even better as your gain more experience, and overall, it isn't currently over-saturated with people.

Getting started as an entry level software developer doesn't require more than a 4 year CS or related degree. And even if you have a different bachelors degree, it's still possible, though more difficult to find that first job. It's one of the few fields I can think of where if you can demonstrate some competence outside of prior work experience, you can use that to get your foot in the door.

with coding you actually have to know what your doing. there's no faking the funk in the industry. experience really means a lot too and the great thing is that you can get that experience on your own time by working on your own projects to show employers.

I really need to buckle back down on learning c#.

I thought about programming but went towards networking instead, its another field that you do not need a degree to be successful.
