I think you are missing what I’m saying. You are talking like these people regret not spending more time with their family and if they had to start over they would not go after those positions

I’m saying that when you chase those positions it’s everything to you and if you marry tge right person they also want you to chase your dreams. So when they die they are proud of what they accomplished but they may value their family more for helping them get there or just always loving them.

I’m saying the two aren’t mutually exclusive

Now if you never have a family and you choose career then you probably have a lot of friends and you want them around you. I saw it first hand with my brother.
No this is all about putting that career/education OVER your family or over having a family altogether.
I understand it is possible to chase big opportunities while still maintaining some sort of family/community. I am talking about people that intentionally sacrifice life with a family in favor of a career.

I used my aunt as an example only to illustrate how chasing and dedicating your life to something that easily can be pulled from you and erased, doesn't make sense to me.

Ok ok. Well in that case I still think the people that don’t want kids just doesn’t want them no matter if they climbed the corporate ladder or was average.

So the ones that was career focused cared about achieving those goals more than they wanted a family. You are saying everyone should want a family and if they don’t they will regret it and that’s never been the case
Some people don’t want to compromise with a spouse or raise kids they would rather chas ethe bag.

I'm not saying that. I just don't understand the logic of devoting your life to something that isn't yours, where you can be replaced, at the expense of something that is yours, where you can't be replaced.

I don't think everyone will regret it, but I do think that everyone, at some point, looks around and feels lonely. I understand that people find purpose and fulfillment in their careers, but the logic of it just doesn't make sense.
