Why Do People Hate On MGS2 So Much?

low-key its the best metal gear game after the OG MGS on PS1 (not that twin snakes trash )

I liked the patriots mind fukkery near the end and A.I cambell going HAM

I liked snake as a mentor and wasn't pissed you didn't play as him the whole game

I liked raiden too

people say its "convoluted" but its not any more convoluted than other MGS games after 2

Because Snake the GOAT. He's just that character you loved no matter what. You play him on the PS1 debut which is a legendary game. He's a character you have to remember and considerably bad ass.

Went from bad ass loveable character to whiny bytch with a gay hair cut and a game that could've lived up to the expectations you would've had if it wasn't solid snake.

Big Boss got a pass because he was an original.

Kojima really dropped the ball with Raiden and he knows it, hence why you have such an over the top version of Raiden in MGS4 and even Revengence as an obvious way to over compensate for the complete pansy he was in MGS2. It was obvious core MGS fans didn't receive Raiden well. It was almost like he was testing the waters to see if the fans were ready for the torch to be passed to the next generation. I think if he would have cut a lot of the silly stuff out of MGS 2, Raiden would have been respected way more. The corny cartwheels, the entire naked section, the female appearance they gave him. None of it held a candle to the legend that was Solid Snake. That's why the only other character people got behind was Big Boss because it brought back that lengendary feeling to the main character. MGS 2 to me was and always will be the low point in the MGS legacy. Not a terrible game necessarily. Just hurt by the amazing quality of the games it was surrounded by.

Throughout the entirety of MGS2's promotion from the day it was revealed to the day of release, everyone thought that Snake would be the main protagonist. Come to find out that Snake is only playable for about %20 of the game while you played as this rookie pretty boy Raiden the entire rest of the game. It rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.


To it's credit, it was a well kept secret, Raiden wasn't even mentioned in the reviews for the game IIRC.

Kojima should have flipped the script and made the tanker portion for Raiden and kept the main game for Solid Snake. I think that way it would have made Raiden seem like a worthy succesor and have the fans wanting to see more of him.

They should've had him as a character that assists you like Snake was to him..it wouldn't have made sense for Raiden to be on the tanker. The entire series should've stuck to the Snake's for obvious reasons then released a Raiden game like they had. I remember wanting to be Gray fox so badly & would've had me more excited for the MGSR game if Raiden wasn't in MGS2 as the protagonist because of how he was.

it was alright. I played the demo to death (and barely touched ZoE). the actual game did the bait and switch, but that really didn't bother me. what I didn't like was that the game only really had two areas. and the story just got crazy, to the point it was basically 'breaking the fourth wall' (fission mailed)

game was cool though, plus I liked the VR missions

IIRC people thought the demo was the greatest thing ever - the hype was incredible - and the game didn't live up to.

I remember it being a good game but the story, even for MGS, was retarded.

I never can really attach myself to a video game character to the point where nikkas did for mgs2. That game is straight crack
