I Cant Lie I rep my hood proudly but now I live in the burbs....but I always noticed that this phenomenon occurs. I do it sometimes too just to let nikkas know I can't possibly be shook of another nikka considering where I'm from

It's because there's the misconception that growing up in the hood makes you realer or 'tougher'. There's fakes in any environment, and while a struggling environment may make you more resilient to a lot of different things, that doesn't mean the people who live in the suburbs are soft. You never know what a person went through, and you also don't know what they're capable of doing until the opportunity presents itself. I think it's also because some suburban folks also don't have a solid understanding of what goes on in lower-income areas, and think a lot of the hood shyt is done for bragging rights and glorified ignorance, when a lot of it is for survival. Or, for some, it's all they know how to do. Those suburb people are blessed enough to not have to experience being poor, and there's the disconnect. So 'Street Smarts' is really just life experience based off their surroundings and environment.. and some suburban people lack it, because they never needed to learn it in the first place. But like someone in the thread pointed out, some suburbs are low-income and struggling as well, and so we can't paint all of them with the same brush.
