I started out in college doing engineering. Hoping to do biomedical engineering but realized I honestly didn't care about the major... I was just doing it because that's what my pops told me I should do before he passed. Took a break, came back.

Eventually I went into communications for advertising but flirted with the idea of joining the business school for a marketing degree.

Ever since I hit the comm school people have nothing positive to say about either of those colleges/majors. Ppl act like they are worthless degrees..,

How worthless are they in the real world?

Business majors are fine because they cover a variety of career fields. Accounting, Marketing, HR and Management. Communications is kinda useless. Marketing Degree is the much better option.

I hear marketing has less jobs and options because it's very specific to a small portion of advertising/business. Where as advertising covers a wider variety.

maybe in wrong.

Fukk u mean they look down on communication AND business majors? :usure: they only look down on communication majors.
Business degree holders stay with new opportunities. :beli:

Idk breh. Business is one of the most sought out degrees. I was under the impression that finance and accounting are the only sure bets in business and that journalism and "communication studies" would be the useless comm degrees.

Not sure about that. They are basically the same degree in a sense.

Business is also a good option for students who want to enter the business world but don't know what they want to do yet. For example when I was in undergrad, my major was originally accounting. Then the dean scared me into switching to a business major on the day of freshman orientation, but it worked out fine because I wasn't sure if Accounting was what I wanted to do. By the 3rd or 4th year once you figure out what you wanna do, you can try to get that internship (Accounting, Marketing, HR, etc) to start getting experience.

why not just complete ur science degree and then get work wereva u want...science degrees are accepted everywhere:yeshrug:
Science? U mean biomedical engineering? I didn't do it because I was suffering grade wise because I had zero interest.

I love communications to the degree that I love that it has creative application. I love to create things. Marketing would fit me well too. But I'm not interested in really going into sales.

I think Ima email my professor and talk to him about it.

anybody who says you can only make money in STEM is a clown and doesn't know what they're talkin bout.

I'm in the marketing field and there's plenty of money in it. At the end of the day experience> type of degree

I felt that way, but now I'm nervous about the whole ordeal. My best friend was in pre-med bio and decided to do kinesiology and physical therapy graduated in may and hasnt been able to find a job. Breh is deep into depression too.

Got me thinking... maybe I'm doing this all wrong. Maybe marketing is the way to go then..

A lot of universities offer Communication degrees with concentrations such as Digital Media, Analyst, Broadcasting, Advertising/Marketing, etc;

There's nothing wrong with being a STEM major but, I think people have romanticized STEM way too much as the golden ticket of prosperity.

Does your friend have experience? Location might be part of his problem too. Tell your boy to just keep grinding and things will turn around.. finding a job is a job itself even if your resume is on point.

You should do whatever you're passionate about and feel is your strength but also research the amount of opportunities.. like I said not getting a stem degree doesn't mean you won't find a good paying job after you graduate.
