Why do studio spend millions on scripts that make no sense?

I never understood that with movie studios? Like it has to be like at least one person who looks at some of these script and say "Hey, this is ridiculous. People won't believe that". I watched "Gone" yesterday just to see what it was about. And the ending was so dumb. I couldn't believe a studio would release that. Does anybody know the ins and out of this business? How does that work with stuff getting approved and companies investing bands to millions of dollar in a movie.

Mostly, tho, some execs feel they can pump a hunnid milly into a script and shyt out a franchise, but Disney finding out the hard way that ain't poppin.

You have to please everybody, not the 1% of the population that uses logic and reason often. Some people just want to be entertained. I would watch a dumb movie to blow 2 hours.

It's all a business thing. They'll put a big name on whatever they're putting out and bank on making money off of that.
They aren't about to risk any money or time on anything new or innovative in this day and age.

Just like it's been mentioned, big business ruins all of that. Look what it did to hip-hop.

Because movie producers aren't storytellers. They just make movies to make money. So they hire people to write the story for them, but it has to whatever they think will sell. But most of them actually don't have a clue what will sell, they only think they know what will sell and that's why they end up telling writers that the ending should have a plot twist, or that they should insert a shootout somewhere in the middle.

Similarly, someone can send them the shyttiest screenplay ever but if they think it can make them money because the big climax is a fight against a big spider and they remember a recent movie with a big spider made money, they'll actually go make it just because of that. That's how they think, and that's why so much crap happens.
