Without professional sports teams in cities like Cleveland, Detroit, Philly (I live here), etc. it would be straight chaos. It's like the scene in American Gangster when they're watching the Ali-Frazier fight and they say "that's not sports, it's politics". Without major distractions like sports in hostile, depressed, impoverished cities large areas of them would most likely turn into warzones relatively quickly.
