They pay like twice as much as the other 3 networks just to air 1 game a week. They get damn near the shyttiest game each week. They are not even apart of the Super Bowl rotation.

I know they are still probably making a profit, but it's mind blowing how they are getting raped versus what the other networks pay and receive content wise.

I don't know the numbers but, I'm guessing the situation is either that or become nonexistent.

they not gettin raped. if they don't pay that they wouldn't have NFL games at all. MNF is a huge money maker and still the premier spot even with bad games

And the reason why MNF is on ESPN is why they never will.

Wake.
They lost the bid, it's their own fault. They could've had the Sunday Night package with the flex games and pre-game highlight show but NBC strong-armed em for it. Instead they got left with the lesser MNF package.

Word. ESPN is probably the most expensive channel for cable providers to purchase rights for. NFL knew they could get more money out of them in negotiations.

Come on man. I hate when ppl make statement like like we all in the know. Can you elaborate on this....

ABC didn't wanna deal with how much it cost to invest in football on a weekly basis. Therefore, it wasn't worth it to keep it on network TV and the ratings didn't justify it (ABC on the low has to be one of the brokest networks ever. They always dead popular shyt because it costs too much. Watch them cancel Scandal out of the blue if it fukks with their budget)

Once ABC gave up their willingness to show football, they left that to ESPN altogether. Unfortunately for them, it means the NFL threw ABC /ESPN in the bushes after Superbowl XL since cable money <<< network money

ESPN
• ESPN said its 17 Monday Night Football telecasts averaged 13,679,000 viewers. It was the third-most viewed season in ESPN’s eight years of presenting MNF. The network had six of cable’s 10 biggest audiences for the calendar year among viewers, and ESPN said eight times during its schedule it won the night as the most-watched network among households and total viewers—cable or broadcast—in prime time.

• ESPN’s most-viewed MNF game came on Sept. 9 when 16,524,000 viewers watched the Eagles at Redskins season opener.

• The 10 highest-rated markets for Monday Night Football in 2013: 1. New Orleans; 2. Sacramento; 3. Las Vegas; 4. San Diego; 5. Richmond, Va.; 6. Seattle-Tacoma; 7. Norfolk-Portsmouth, Va.; 8. Washington D.C.; 9. Charlotte; and 10. Baltimore.

Monday Night Football on ESPN Deportes averaged 45,000 Hispanic households and 68,000 Hispanic viewers for the 17-game schedule in 2013, the most-watched MNF season on record for ESPN Deportes among Hispanic viewers.

• ESPN’s Monday Night Football online streaming generated an average minute audience of 610,000, an increase of 31% compared to 2012.

Pregame: Sunday NFL Countdown averaged 2.2 million viewers (up from last year’s 2.1).

They could air the Super Bowl on ABC
here's the problem. The NFL won't air the Superbowl on a channel that doesn't show football on a weekly basis, even if they use ESPN's team, graphics, whatever. If ABC wanted to do that, they might as well show MNF themselves, but as I just mentioned, ABC would rather leave that shyt to ESPN.

At least with the NBA Finals, ABC shows NBA games during the season. If they didn't do that, the NBA would either want a new network backing them or show the Finals on cable which is not a good look

Makes sense.

Even if ABC try to and got the Thursday Night package, they wouldn't get a Super Bowl because it wasn't negotiated in the new TV deals
