That's not a strawman because the world follows basketball which IS an American sport. Naismith was Canadian but he made the sport in Massachusetts. It's American. It never touched Canadian soil.

Soccer was around longer plus logistically it’s just easier to play. You literally just need a round object to kick around and you can make goals out of anything. The sport is accessible to even the poorest kid in the poorest country. Football and baseball need special equipment plus a ton of other bodies to play with. Basketball you need a ball that is bounceable and the goals are a bit trickier to set up.
