I know that Jimmy Butler and Klay Thompson are young GREAT players in this league, but why do they get bonus point for being on a winning team that has great coaching/depth and why do great players get points removed for being on a bad team that has bad coaching/ no depth?

An NBA commentator on sunsports last week said "Your play should impact winning" when discussing all-star selections. The great players on bad teams are pretty much the only reason those bad teams are not worse, right? If you take Klay and Jimmy off their respective teams, by no means would they be better, but those teams would still win ALOT of games. If you swapped Jimmy out for Wade would Miami still not be terrible?

I just want to know what the thought process behind all this.
