They don't take all your money.
But some of that money you do pay goes to things you might one day need, or things you use.

Like roads.
Or...the fire department.

So you might be annoyed by me saying this, but...

They need to use your tax dollars to fix those roads. Or they need to increase taxes because they don't take in enough money. Or the people in your area need to figure out where your tax dollars are going because they may be shifting that money to some bullshyt.

And it's possible that those roads keep getting damaged because they see a lot of traffic from heavy vehicles. Cars are getting bigger and heavier and that causes more stress on the roads. Everyone loves their trucks and SUVs...and most of our personal packages are transported by trucks instead of rail...so that's part of the problem that's ruining the country's roads too.

Just another one of the more subtle arguments for why we need more trains, trams, bike lanes and public transit. It'll give people better, cheaper options to get around. It'll cut transport costs and increase efficiency for logistics companies like FedEx/UPS, etc... And it'll save a lot of wear and tear on the roads.

I'm sure @bnew rants about this in his threads.
