2 reasons.
He is half-black.
2nd Reason, for all the hate that Drake gets from some people. he's been pretty forthcoming about his position in the game. He never really claimed to be the savior of anything. He considers himself more artist than rapper. People are coming at him for not writing his own shyt even though he gives props and credit to these writers who help him make songs.
Also this Meek Mill beef really shows you that what constituted hip-hop culture is fluid and ever changing. Hip-hop is a youth driven culture and now its basically run by 90's babies for the most part. We are now entering a territory where these kids have never seen 2 turntables and a mic, the Graffiti has been long painted over, tracksuits and kangols are basically worn ironically. That's just where the game is at. Kids just wanna be entertained, they don't care how the sausage is made anymore.
