Why cant a 34 year old black man from Alabama go to Howard? If its really about blackness and doing whats best for the community?Offering up exclusively online classes would not only help them financially, but it would also help black folks nationwide. Alot of this HBCUs are poorly managed and dont realize they are sitting on a gold mine:respect:

I honestly cant think of a good reason,so maybe yall can offer some. Other than "Bu bu but PWI's dont do it:damn:".

Wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of going to a HBCU?
:heh:

No,not at all. You obviously cant beat the experience of being at an HBCU surrounded by likeminded black people. As well as the networking you would gain. And thats mostly what you are paying for at an HBCU.

But the black man in Alabama may just want the classes without the frills. And if HBCUs are really about the betterment of black people,he should be allowed.

If its not about that to people, might as well stop trying to sell us on the fact we need HBCUs.

Does working remote defeat the purpose of having a job:respect:?

This.

I have a good amount of friends that are HBCU grads and back when they attended / just graduated they always mentioned that the major themes and selling points of their respective schools were community and "The Black Experience."

Unless there's been phililosophical changes, offering a curriculum where someone never has to be on or around campus seems to move away from that mission statement, as antiquated as it may be.

Because Howard wants their money and they know a lot of kids will choose the online option. They do have an online bachelors program but the major is “Human Development”. IMO, they should offer one in Liberal Studies like most schools do. IIRC, Georgetown has like 5 degree programs you can take online.

Is that what its about though? "selling points" for HBCU's?

Your getting warmer. These HBCUs like Howard want to remain "prestigious". So they wouldnt let someone like me in at my age and academic history.

So you want to stay prestigous by keeping certain black people out:patrice:?

Doesnt sound much different than the hiring practices, racial harrasment in certain businesses, and neighborhood Karens.

They too want to keep their spaces "prestigious" by keeping black people out. Horrible optics for HBCU's. Life is about evolving, its time for a change.:respect:#LetUsIn

EVERY LAST business in this world has & lives by "selling points."

To this day, one of the major selling points of all colleges is their campus experience as long as they have the traditional dormitory setup. Every college brochure sent out to prospective students highlights their living quarters and on-campus student affairs.

Kids still crave the on-campus experience, breh. And that's who each and every institution will cater to first and foremost.

The good life 😎
He has a point. If you want to bring in more people, you have to be more flexible in your set-up. They're just losing money to other schools who provide this. Schools that don't feel any obligation to teach with the Black experience in mind.

That actually isnt a bad idea online hbcus. Have a farther reach, than to ask every black person to go to certain regions

Well,if its just s business,it should be allowed to fail like every other business that refuses to evolve:respect:

They have the largest endowment of all the HBCUs at 1or 2 billion. Lets see how long they last without federal funding. If they want to keep black folks out to keep their prestige, they certainly arent "too big to fail".

Im so tired of these "black businesses" that want to tote that line. One minute they want to be just another business. Next minute they using the SELLING POINT that they are so integral to black people, that they cant be allowed to crumble and have their spot taken by someone else. Is it oochie wally or is it one mic?

Their selling point is selling to black people why we need HBCUs. While at the same time wanting to close the ranks to keep the "prestige". If black people need HBCUs,why wont you let us in:#LetUsIn

We should not be using these same "prestige" practices that certain PWIs do at these private HBCUs or any HBCU. Get as many of us in as you can, however you can. I dont mind online tier being for those with lesser grades and accolades btw. The on campus experience can still be for the most prestigious.

Who will fund the infrastructure for these endeavors when the schools have been under siege and under funded for damn near the whole of their existence? There hasn't been enough time passed by to produce the volume of alumni, affluent or not, to have an endowment large enough to have the capital for non traditional avenues in abundance like that.......

Guess I'm getting old....did online classes and degrees stop for colleges!?!

Damn near every major state university had online classes like 20yrs ago. Gmail/G-suite services for the emails too.

I don’t think you really looked. Howard is pressing for all of their programs to make a long term strategic plan to create a sister online option. Some programs already have them. So what program are you looking for?
