Why don't college coaches redshirt more freshman.

Being on TV has nothing to do with "exposure" to pro scouts.

Yes it does. Pro scouts cant be at every football game for every school. They use film to judge players just as much as they use their own eyes. Go watch some player documentaries for greats who played in college during that period. They would always say they wanted to have their best games during a bowl game or against Alabama, ND, USC, etc...because they knew the scouts would see their play then. Plenty of players have stated they went to ND simply because they were on TV all the time.

The kids would also want to be on tv so their friends and family could see them play.

What does not being on television have to do with pro scouts being able to watch players correlate? How do you think AA players get
drafted? Scouts are everywhere & it's their job to be. So yes, if they're unable to see it live, they call the coach & he gives them tape on what wouldn't be seen on tv. The same tape the players study during the week. That's the only film they care about. Being at a game or watching it live only changes perception, and most of the time that's from upper management.

Edit: And if you're good enough, you will be found. I don't recall seeing Khalil Mack on my television every week & there's more & more people

while this is true, the thing is, this line of thinking is quite new among college football players

I'm a Miami fan, so I'll use the example of us having Clinton Portis as our starting RB, but then McGahee and Frank Gore sitting behind on the bench

Andre Johnson came knowing that he'd have to wait a year behind Santana Moss and Reggie Wayne to be "the man", same thing with Sean Taylor coming behind Ed Reed, etc

these are just Miami examples but other college teams were able to stash 4 and 5 star recruits and have them redshirt and wait
Not a great example because Miami was sending hella players to leave and they'll still get play in garbage time.

Ok so former players were lying when they said they chose to go to the same big schools because of the extra exposure? I'm sure all these players got together and decided to push this lie on tv over and over again just for the hell of it.

Different sport but do you not remember how tv pushed the Big East to the forefront and all of a sudden top talent flooded the league?

Oh and Buffalo was on tv during the time he was there.
