Why don't fans respect Kobe as much as his peers?

It seems like everybody's favorite player's favorite player is Kobe. Last year it was Bird saying he'd wanna play with Kobe over LeBron. Magic saying Kobe is much better than LeBron. MJ yesterday saying 5 beats 1 every time. Dirk saying Kobe is the best player the last 15 years. Wade today saying Kobe is the best of "our era."

I mean I can't think of a great player, either current or former, who ain't gave props to Kobe as the best of his era. Yet all these fans who have never played ball feel they know better than the greats. It just makes no sense to me. You would think that dudes like Wade and Dirk who play against him would be the last folks to heap false praise. Yet its Kobe's peers who proclaim him the best. The same way that MJ's peers proclaimed him the best.

This has been going on since the Jordan retired in 98 friend, the media was constantly searching for the next Jordan, when Kobe actually started to get close to what they saw, a fierce spirit of hate was released into the earth attaching it self to anyone and anything that would have him.
