Why don't indy rappers go straight to Itunes?

giving away all their music when they could get a few racks and tour locally. I think lyrical rappers those not really caring about the fame and millions could easily get about 100-200k off itunes/amazon and touring. What you think?

I should've clarified.. rappers who had a run and are known.. like Dipset..etc

Guys like Lupe, Common..etc can pay a good 40k to get their stuff marketed right and recoup that back plus on sales.

I'm guessing BUT I think:

1. sample clearance issues

2. I think iTunes tax artists a very high % of profits

cause without a HUGE marketing and promotion budget.... nobody gives two fukks... no matter who you are

most these guys who were on, would still be on, if their fanbase paid actual money for them... being a fan by downloading free shyt and listening to old music and watching new shyt on world star does not make a PAYING fan

i know this cause the platinum selling (at one point) and lyrical, street and rap legends (to most) the LOX just tried to do this.... they had no label, dropped a quick EP and nobody gave two fukks nor bought it... they are currently looking for a label to sign to... but now labels just saw what happened, they are being low balled or not even looked at
