I'm doing a candidate firefighter program at the moment in a nearby town, literally the only breh on the entire department of 60-70 dudes.

It's unpaid at the moment but in a year or two I could be on the payroll. In most decent cities they start you out between 45k-65k and in 10 years or so you could max out over 100k :yeshrug:

Just something more brehs should look into, schooling takes 2-3 years but after that you straight

Update: Just got accepted into EMT school, my dept. paying for everything :wow:

Think that firemen only do fires brehs:russ:

Across the country, 87% of the calls are medical(old lady falls down stairs, asthma attack etc)

So basically y'all like the 2nd rate EMTs because the real EMTs are busy?

I mean, every fireman on my department is cross trained as a paramedic, so we wear two hats. People often ask why a fire engine shows up at medical calls, that's the reason.

For example, it's times when we're putting out a fire then a hour later the exact same dudes could be helping a stroke victim.

Plus real EMTs don't make shyt..it's 19 year olds I know making $20+ hourly in departments

OP where do you stay? There are a good number of fire fighters in Atlanta. I applied with a local department. Passed the physical & written test & out of 250 people, I was one of the final 10 chosen for an interview.

Didn't pass the interview tho :mjcry:

I think a lot of brehs just don't know how to go about being a firefighter :ehh:

Seems like a good look if you don't have a degree though. Definitely would beat working retail somewhere.

Network man. My bro had the same thing happen with the police department in atl. Show up a couple times at a station tell them your story, tell them your willing to learn the ropes and help out for free 4-5 times. They vouch for u and u get the job next go around. Sounds like alot but when u retire at 55 with two houses traveling the country with a fat ass pension you'll laugh about how easy it was

I stay in Chicago and but my department in one of the burbs. Keep testing, try to make friends with guys who are already in. Maybe even travel around your state testing at various departments if you're really into it. I knew a group of guys who drove all the way to cali to test with Los Angeles.

Hate to say it but most of everyone at my department has a brother, cousin, father in law, neighbor etc. that got them in. Definitely network and build relationships with guys.

Yeah it's nice to own your own business and what not but it's guys retiring at 52 years old with a fat ass pension who got summer houses in Florida with 2-3 boats

It's helpful to get it but it's not a requirement. Maybe it is for the department near you but a lot of departments in GA hire people with no experience or degree at all.

The waiting list is long. You kind of have to know someone to get in from what I've heard.
