Since social media came out their teams don't control their public image entirely anymore. A lot of celebrities broke that wall of mystery by showing how basic and lame they are on their own time. Whereas back in the day they would be protected by their teams. So at this point it's up to the Individuals to cultivate whatever image they want.

Out of reach celebrities always appear more interesting than those that want all the attention all the time. Have no privacy etc. The more access you give the public the less you appeal.
