1. he was picked too high
2. the coaches stacked the deck for him vs Sanders. He got more reps with the first team since OTA's.
3. They traded Kenny Pickett to move him up the depth chart so he started the season as the back up.
4. They benched Flacco and made him the starter early in the season.
5. Had he not got hurt, he would've started vs the Raiders and again vs the 49ers.
6. He lost to the Jets

Nothing to feel bad about. He wasn't a real leader, and the some of the players had seen enough of him. Despite being outplayed in practice, the coaches still kept him in front of Shedeur. And Shedeur was able to do in one game, Garbriel couldn't do in 6.

Nobody feels bad because he was given a shot and did nothing with it. I wouldn't expect him to just come in and dominate but he looked like he never belonged in the NFL in the first place. Browns had no business drafting him that high and he would've been still there rounds later.
Come on this actually is the issue. The man has played 5 games in his rookie season. What’s the expectations when you say he did nothing with it? His numbers don’t look that bad considering the context. He ain’t straight Nathan Petermaning out there.

With that said I agree Shedeur is just the better talent and should not have fell to 5th

Dillon and Shedeur should get a pass.

No QB looks good playing for the Browns and the Browns don't have a great track record with QB development. Have to go back to Bernie Kosar......Deion was at FSU when young Bernie was in Cleveland, so....a long azz time ago.

Gabriel needed to go to a team like the Rams, SF etc., one of those McVay/Shanahan squads that could mold him into a very competent backup or low/mid starter. Starting QB should mean you're Pro Bowl level at minimum. If you don't have that, keep looking. Dak Prescott, Justin Herbert....that's about the floor for "franchise guy" where you should stop looking. If your guy has no chance of getting to Prescott/Herbert level, keep it moving.

Shedeur needs a lot of work but he has more upside than DG. His fans keep crowing because they know the most of the Browns leadership, including the HC didn't want him.

Also....we've seen NFL players with all kinds of bullshyt get drafted...dudes that played H.S. ball in Texas like Shedeur (Mayfield, Manziel etc). They were MUCH better college players, but Shedeur was a 2nd/3rd rounder, not 5th. Uppity is OK for white athletes but not Black ones, especially if they already come from privilege. Shedeur might fail but folks want to see him get a fair shot. Many think the Browns coaching staff want Shedeur to fail or at least for DG to shine.

he was put in a situation where the margin for error for zero, which for a 3rd rounder is still normal, but considering the stanbase Sanders is growing, all he had to do was have one bad game and the pitchforks woulda been out. Had Sanders gone to any team that didn't have a top 14 QB, regardless of stature, that QB's weaknesses woulda been picked apart every which way, especially here.

If all Gabriel became was a backup QB, where he was slotted is not the worst outcome and everyone would be fine with it. Sanders is a 5th rounder yet most people will not tolerate him not starting again, even if he eventually shows he isn't worthy of it. For the next 3 seasons at minimum, any QB prospect that exists will be considered garbage to any Sanders fan. Point blank.

Gabriel is raw ass, But…..

Yea he seems to be a casualty of war, and is in an unfair position in the NFl. Nobody would care how ass he was of it wasn’t for that situation.

Stefanski too, I think he’s an ass coach but I don’t think he hates “confident black players”. Sheduer just wasn’t his guy, every coach has their guy. The way they’re going in on coach and calling him and the browns organization racist on social media is crazy

shyt like this is unnecessary

It happened in Dallas.

Jimmy Johnson loved Steve Walsh because that was his guy at The U.

Everyone knew Aikman had more upside but Walsh had "moxie." Troy didn't trust Jimmy because dude had been trying to snag Aikman since he was 16 (wanted him at Oklahoma State and then Miami when Aikman left OU).

Eventually it worked out. DG has a higher floor, but that's not enough if they ever want to contend in the AFC.

counter point: if you can make it on the Browns, you'd be considered special and that's what Sanders is gonna have to be to cut it in the league considering where he's starting out.

As of today, there are 8 QB's that weren't first round picks who currently start, one of them being Sanders.

Hurts- 2nd rounder, SB Champ
Purdy- 7th rounder, outlier of outliers and even that year, they traded up for Lance
Geno- 2nd rounder, time's running out on him, will be replaced this offseason
Tyrod Taylor- 6th rounder, career backup/bridge QB, will be replaced this offseason
Dak- 4th rounder, big time outlier
Shough- 2nd rounder, just got the job and it's not a lock that they don't look a QB's during the next draft
Brissett- 3rd rounder, took Kyler Murray's job, but even as good as he's been, Arizona's not looking at him as the solution, but let them know they might need a new QB soon enough.

The days of hoping your starting QB are in rounds 3 or later are kinda over. Those are desperation dart throws hoping you can salvage your job because if the team is ass, the organization is gonna sell you on a new GM, coach and eventually QB.

Chris Carter said this before the season started. If Shedeur was Gabriel's backup, it was going to be bad for Gabriel. he was under pressure every week. Imagine being the starter and the local media is ripping you every week. Imagine being at home and you see fans wearing your backup's jersey in the stands. It killed his confidence to the point Shedeur had to come out and tell people to chill :mjlol:

Whats even more crazy about that Cowboys story.. Walsh was a supplemental pick, so he wasn't even drafted in the normal NFL Draft.
Dallas traded him a year later to the saints for a 1991 1st and 3rd round pick and a 1992 2nd round pick. Jimmy Johnson finessed the hell out of teams when he first got to the NFL :mjlol:

At some point this year the Browns had 6 QBs on the roster talmbout it was an “open QB competition”

The biggest assets for an NFL QB outside their own skill is conference and chemistry with his team.

How in the hell were any of them supposed to build any of that under these circumstances.:beli:
