Because Russell didn't come into the league with as much capital as Cam. Cam built the careers of writers and their reputations, those who drafted him and more than Russell. So more was tied to him.

RG3 would have been my black champion if he didn't privilege dopey white women, dismiss McNabb and refuse to amicably accept the black QB label. For me a ideal black QB is professional, doesn't privilege white women, takes black QB's advice (regardless of helpfulness), challenges the white orthodoxy and wins*. This is a difficult standard to reach, and neither Wilson nor RG3 nor Cam meet requirements. That said, some reach more than others.
