"Before we say anything, one of the biggest fabrications we’ve seen in the history of rap music, has been Eazy E’s portrayal on Straight Outta Compton. For those that were around during the era, Eazy was never attacked or jumped by the bloods at Death Row Records. In fact, E had a mutual respect with Suge Knight, as the two wanted to keep their streets of Compton and affiliates in Watts on an internal safe zone.
This week marks the 26th anniversary for the passing of the King of Los Angeles, which many in mainstream media never give him proper acknowledgment. After coming across old files on our hard drives, we wanted to share a rare story to the youth on the power of Eazy E. If you remember last year, we broke down how E was going to originally sign 2pac with Bone Thugs. However, those plans got derailed, when he had to put focus on breaking away from Jerry Heller.
E had to the power to pull Pac away from Interscope, which was originally ran by Warner Music Group. Luckily for Suge, the Above the Rim soundtrack, was the first introduction to 2pac getting his first real checks in the game. Prior to that, Pac didn’t own publishing, which he later received a few weeks before he died. With Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, neither artist owned their publishing, as E still had rights to anything Dre produced.
That didn’t sit well with Suge, who knew Eazy was taking a large slice from the Death Row pie on sales revenue each year. The reason why Suge couldn’t intimate Eazy, was solely because of the Mexicans. For those of you who don’t know, the Mexicans, not Black gangs, have and always will run the streets of Los Angeles. 2pac had the same love from the eses, but not bigger than Eazy E.
When you have admiration from a group of people willing to die for you, because you’re doing right by them; you essentially become untouchable. So, Eazy was one of the only rappers to crossover into Mexican areas within Compton and even rival areas to receive respect.
In real life, E was never going to call Dr. Dre and apologize, like it was portrayed on Straight Outta Compton. However, they did make peace, during the final days E was alive. The original plan for N.W.A. before Eazy died, was to reunite with Ice Cube, DJ Yella and MC Ren; then have DJ Quik as the replacement for Dr. Dre. Bone Thugs and Above the Law would’ve been involved at some type of capacity, so that situation would’ve been epic.
For those that think Suge had something to do with it, even joking on the Jimmy Kimmel show; it would be serious repercussions for an action of that magnitude. Since then, Big Suge has gone on the record to apologize and pay homage to Eazy, when he didn’t have to
