So I need two of you generals from both ps4 and xbox clans tell me this

SSD is the most logical solution in storage for games right now. it's not crazy expensive.

the difference between a regular HD and SSD is immense, those loading times on consoles be havin me :dead:

you have next gen consoles possibly coming out with wack 5400 rpm HDs :whoa:

well at least for PS4 you can upgrade I hear...

someone enlighten me on why SSDs, which are great gamig performance enhancers, are discounted ?

this isnt a troll thread too. just weird to see very good GPUs (PS4) go hand in hand with 5400 rpm hard drives :scusthov:

cost meh, but I can sorta see it. still its not as expensive as before

reliability is negligible. in fact, some studies showed that failure rates of SSDs are actually lower than those of magnetic HDs.

at this point SSDs are pretty much as reliable as ol' HDs.

Gang violence...
gamers want at least a half a gig now. good luck doing that with SSD in a competitively priced console

the only thing close to that would be some proprietary storage medium that the company controlled, so over time they can ensure the cost of production goes down and that the medium gets used in other applications (like blu ray)

You can put an SSD in the PS4 if you want :manny:

true, I mentioned it as well :lolbron: PS4 seems to be a more advanced and flexible system despite some dogs barking :mjpls:

anyway, just trying to understand why this isnt a standard yet in modern systems that boast nice GPUs...its almost like having a windows 98 machine in your network.

HD reads/writes are actually bigger bottlenecks than most people think

if you have a ton of ram, it isnt a big deal, and in a gaming console, you wont be writing often

Just not cost effective enough. I don't know where this cloud shyt is going but storage is a premium right now because of the ability to download games to the hard drive.

A 500 GB SSD cost damn near the amount of a new PS3. I think we'll have to wait till next gen for SSD to be built into consoles. 7200 RPM drives are fine for now especially considering console OS's don't have as much going on plus the RAM bump helps.

As I said cost. A 500GB SSD is prohibitively expensive.

These are not PC's. With 8GB of ram read/write is a non issue. You are not going to be writing large files to the hd. In fact load times should be a thing of the past once the game starts.

true but you can get 120gb for system on demand kind of solution...oh well

write might not be an issue, but reads are always a big issue man. I know its less so on a console than a pc, but still, you wont load EVERYTHING into memory. and even if you do, it will be one long load. SSDs load time is :ohlawd:

Oh man, let me catch you up then my brotha.
Yes, you can easily change the HDD on the PS4.. or PS3.
The xbox 360 used Sata drives and required the removal of 4 screws to make the switch. So both systems can easily be upgraded.

For the Xbox One, its not yet known how easy it would be to change the HDD, but what is know is that they also give you UNLIMITED storage via the Cloud :blessed: So every Xbox One basically has a 2,000gb HDD.

No lies, being truthful.org on tat azz. As for loading of games :russ:
Everything this gen will be instant. Have you seen anything from either company? Sony is trying to do the same, but it wont. It will allow you to switch between stuff faster than you can now. But instant everything?
Only thing I seen from sony is them "saying" once they finally get Gaikai up, it'll let you start playing "demo's" before they are done downloading.
It was thought games (which would still be limited to PS1/2 games) but now its apparently demos of those games.

They also said Gaikai can make it so you can play a game while it downloads via PSN... its not totally clear because they haven't really made a big deal about the feature and neither has anyone else. No videos/etc.
Here's what I was talking about for Xbox tho...

Now you may of heard some jealous PS fanboys be like "It can't do that :sadbron:"
But please don't believe them clowns. Microsoft isn't gonna go on stage and be like "in half a year you will be doing this" then not deliver
Anymore questions? Just remember that you went 0-1-1 last year against the RAMS. The same Ram team who gave us RG3 for basically nothing :russ:
