Seems like a huge drop off in star quality talent at the 2 guard in the NBA. Harden is probably the best below 30 but after him the talent is very average.

What happened to this position? This shyt has turned into the new center. :dwillhuh:

last decade it was an influx of SG and PF with not that many star PG and most SF were just bigger SGs that slid over

currently PG and SF are the strongest positions with most SGs and PFs being more role/utility players

half of the best SGs are 6'3 and under. i think the position lines in basketball are going to get more blurred as time moves forward. guys are so athletic and can do so much that it'll be wings and bigs

The older crop were definitely better at a similar age. Can't point to any bonafide allstars among that list, outside of Harden IMO.

I think they were always blurred it's just now it's more pronounced. Jalen Rose made a great point to Skip when he called him Water Pistol Pete jr. But also he made another great point when he said the positions were really there so fans/novices could follow the games. It was made worse when people added "true" like so and so isn't a true shooting guard, etc.

Outside of Kobe, Ray Ray and Wade today's shooting guard makes no impact with actual shooting. The 90's you couldn't have been a legit contender if you didn't have a shooting guard that could actually shoot. I think John Starks was never a top ten SG during his playing days but I think he was very capable and worthy to start a team but he was never going to be a star a key player at best, today John Starks would arguably be the best or 2nd best SG in the league, because his shooting trumps what todays guards can do.
