WWE: Why Hulk Hogan Must Be Part of WrestleMania 30

By Matt Durr5 hours ago

COMMENTARY | In roughly six months, the WWE will celebrate the 30th anniversary of its groundbreaking event, WrestleMania. The biggest event in wrestling has become a yearly tradition that brings together fans from all over the world and gives them memories that last forever.

Each year the WWE tries to outdo itself with bigger arenas and grander spectacles highlighted by moments you may never see again. Whether it's booking dream matches or bringing in celebrities WrestleMania always gives fans something to look forward to.

And with this year's event marking a milestone for the company, the WWE must find a way to bring back the biggest star in its history: Hulk Hogan.

For the past couple years Hogan has been heavily involved with Impact Wrestling, but in a recent interview with the Associated Press, Hogan said he is no longer under contract with that company.

"We couldn't figure things out," Hogan said. "We're talking, but I'm wide open right now."

If that is truly the case, then the WWE must bring Hogan back home.

Without Hogan, WrestleMania and the WWE would have never become the household names they are today. Hogan was in the main event of WrestleMania in each of the first nine years of its existence. He is responsible for countless WrestleMania moments that fans still look back at as some of the greatest in history.

He won the WWF Championship on three separate occasions at Mania, his first coming in a fantastic match against "Macho Man" Randy Savage at WrestleMania 5. Who can forget his return to the WWE after nine years away when he faced The Rock at WrestleMania 18 or when he body slammed Andre the Giant in front 93,173 fans at WrestleMania 3?

Clearly Hogan wouldn't be able to go out and work a five-star match if he came back, but just having the red and yellow involved with the event would be good enough. The storyline wouldn't have to be anything crazy either. Simply find a bad guy who can wrestle and let Hogan do his classic routine. It could even be in a tag match of sorts.

I'm looking at you Jack Swagger and Antonio Cesaro.

Aside from a Mania appearance, just bringing Hogan into the mix in the weeks prior to the event will help boost ratings and the buy rate for the pay per view. Try as they might, no one on the roster now - aside from maybe John Cena - can say they've drawn money like Hogan.

Hogan being involved in even the slightest way will get more eyes on the product and that is a good thing for everyone involved.

There has been a very contentious relationship between Hogan and Vince McMahon for the past two decades, but the two have been able to work together in the past and put their personal differences aside. Odds are they would do the same this time around with the money that could be made from having Hogan involved again.

The bottom line is, WrestleMania isn't just about who wins or loses; it's about those moments that are frozen in time for wrestling fans. Sure titles will be won and lost and maybe a streak will end, but giving fans one more glimpse at Hogan at WrestleMania would stand out above them all.
