Why is it disrespectful to acknowledge that past athletes had easier competition?

Fans of older teams want to have it both ways....

Fan: We had hand checking...that's why so and so didn't average 30

You: Then you point out that defenses today are better because they do the same job without the ability to hand check and guide the offensive player.

Fan: Nope, defenses then were better, these little dudes weren't gonna be scoring without getting their ribs broken.

:ohhh: Then how did......... 90-91 Michael Adams 5'10"......26 pts 10 ast

it's not offensive to dignity, it's offensive to pride and there's nothing wrong with that

a former athlete with dignity is not concerned about being compared with others, good or bad, because they are comfortable with who they are and what they did when they were competing.

a former athlete without dignity has only the pride provided from the recognition of others. obviously any comparison that would diminish their recognition, even if it is from top 10 to top 25 of all time, is offensive to that pride.
