Why is it that some Iphone users only respond to Imessages and ignore texts?

I could understand the iPhone elitism back in 2009-2010... but in 2018 it makes no sense.

Iphone elitism is just a joke... I don't think anyone actually does it
I usually respond to all texts... Even the green bubbles texts that come in pieces that I got to put together.
Or sometimes I don't respond to any text. I see them, answer them in my head, but don't feel like starting the conversation or getting the eventual phone call that comes from those texts.
But if a chick isn't responding then it's probably not your text bubble colors

lol i have a macbook and she responds to my imessages...but for texts its like pulling teeth.
i once was told by another chick straight up she doesnt answer texts...HOWEVER...one day i called her and found out her phone was cut off and deaded it
How do people see all these Icloud fappening hacks and still continue to buy iphones?
