As a motorsports fan who think IndyCar from an actual racing perspective blows all of these racing circuits away:
- Americans are stupid is just old and played out. Move on. Everything Americans like that's different Europeans seem to fall into this category for them. It sounds just as ignorant from your side.
- If you watched Formula 1 between the turbo era and the DRS era, one could say it was cars going through a single file parade through uninspired, generic road courses that were far too neutered and were built to look good and not encourage actual racing.
Insults and BS aside:
- Formula 1 has a heritage that it was built upon. NASCAR has its own heritage. You enjoy yours', they enjoy theirs.
- If you are into strategy(tire wear, when to take fuel, teammates truly helping or hurting each other) Oval races kill road courses. Penske in particular is a master and managing tires and knowing when and how many tires(another strategic advantage over formula 1 is the option to take 2 tires instead of always 4). Because of the contact, there is also management of body aero beyond initial setup and just dialing front wing. Oval track temperature can also vary greatly and affect setup so much more when the time windows and season are so long. This affects tire pressure greatly over the course of the race. The much heavier cars affect this as wellThis is why there is so much passing. Cars are constantly going from perfect to off. When you see someone run a perfect race in NASCAR it truly is an achievement of car balance, strategy and tire management compared to a formula car. This can be a little off putting if someone has been great all day only to get hit with a late yellow and their tire pressures go down. There are just so many variables, that I think they over do the show at the end of races.
- NASCAR is a marketing machine to their intended audiences. The experience at a NASCAR race for the fan compared to Formula 1 is night and day. They know how to get fans and keep them. If they decided to be a more international series I don't think they would have a hard time at it. They as an organization are very good at selling what they sell.
I say this as someone that puts F1 above NASCAR. But Formula 1 has too many politics, is too cold and you rarely have much improvement from teams over the course of the season. Just luck that Lewis Hamilton's brakes exploded.
