ITS simple.

It’s trash because out of Towners define it by things that happened 25 years ago and have no clue who anybody is or what’s going on.

An out of towner can tell u about “the tunnel” and shyt like that.

But they can’t tell u about Santos etc. All the things that went down there or any of the clubs, scenes in NY etc.

They don’t know what gangs are out here. HOW THE STREETS ARE NOW.

They can tell u about king tut and bimmy, but they can’t tell you about Rugs or other nikkas I won’t name

NY Culture is trash because nikkas really don’t know anything about what’s been happening the past ten years.

So nikkas be like “oh nikkas ain’t wearing fatigue suits and being godbody!?!?”

shyt trash...

nikkas not rapping over beats by 50 year old producers!?!?!?

shyts trash...

Meanwhile NY moved on, names, faces, legends have lived and died in this city and nikkas don’t know nothing about them. That ain’t the town.

Y’all just don’t know whats going on. And y’all dont know what NY is supposed to be or sound like anymore. So these conversations have to happen every two weeks.
All of that is true, but that is true for any place, even little west bubblefukk towns. No one cares because the towns are boring or wack. They cared about L.A., and NYC, because those towns had life. They care about ATL because it has life!

I just think the people who gave us hip hop just moved on. A city is not what makes hip hop, the people do. What made the people who created hip hop want to create hip hop before they even gave it a name was technology, pride in being black(civil rights movement), wanting to be older, listening to your elders/trying to impress them(older hip hop heads/street people),and having the need to be creative so you can outdo all the competition.

This era has the best technology, but aren't into their blackness as much as they are into materialism, so they see rap as a way to get rich quick, so they just do what someone else did, and HOPE it takes off.. The big thing is people wanting to stay young, and laughing at the older people, so naturally they are gonna try to impress each other by doing what each other does. If you are trying to impress the people who came before you, you will try to out do them or be just like them, just for your era. That creates a good competition, and growth. This is the common thing I've heard all the best rappers, and producers, say. I think that is the missing piece of everything, along with the need to try different things to be creative.

I think social media creates fear of being different, because now the whole world might laugh at you, even though NOW its more of a chance of being liked because everyone is the same!

The people that are always wondering about NY's culture is what's really corny. NY will always thrive, even if the culture itself is warped. Why dont ppl like OP wonder the same questions about the culture in their respected areas? I'm sure the music is thriving in Minnesota or whatever small UK town most of you are from.

Westcoast= Dormant, Slow, backpackish, but at least they got Kendrick
ATL/South= May be in the limelight but for every 5 good artists, 20 bad ones come out
NYC= Copying trends, still lowkey has the hottest rappers on the billboards

I'm from the NYC metro area, and I never realized how corny NY was until I lived in Philly for 10 years. I moved back to my hometown, and people are slowly starting to adopt elements of Philly culture from years ago. Add to that, the exposure that social media gives to Black culture everywhere. You can really see how corny NY is by comparison. NY has its redeeming qualities, though. I find that the average New York breh is more intelligent than the average breh from most major cities. That's just my perspective, and I probably pissed people off from both sides of the argument.
what¿

break this bs down

NYC wont come back until nikkas move on from doing Trap Music. You can't have nikkas from NY doing southern style music and still say that there is nothing bad going on with NY is rap culture. NY needs a new sound of rap music. The lyrics, straight bars or boom bap rap that dominated hip hop for 30 years and was NY distinct sound just doesn't sell records anymore. You can only dominant Hip hop for so long using the same sound of music.

The way it is now NYC is the Michael Jordan (90s Bulls) of the rap game while the south/ALT is the Lebron James(Cavs)

I used to live in the NYC area. When you're in NY you think NY is the best of the best. It's easy to understand, given that NYC created hip-hop and ran the genre for like 20 years. But times have changed, the NY superiority is no longer warranted." Some people realize that, but quite a lot don't. In my opinion, at least.

THIS. I dont even like saying much on here cuz u say something then u see somebody in another thread tryna repeat some shyt u said like they be out here or know whats going on.

The fact they even care is whats weird to me. Because the shyt u just named that OT nikkas know(because they on our dicc) a NY nikka would never care about from the next city.

they dappin each other up like its some fly shyt to be on another city dicc so hard.

Meanwhile We doin us.

We the cockiest nikkas out(pause) its not even in our nature to care what these bama nikkas is doing.

nikkas barely care about the next borough...

but every day theres a thread wit these cornballs worrying bout what we doing shoving mad ny dicc in they mouth.

Once Hip hop became a business over a art form and a way to make money over actually advancing the culture, you had a ton of people from a bustling business minded metropolis all trying to get rich instantly all at once.
And out here you have the resources to do it..i.e. studios every couple blocks in manhattan, social events and gatherings every damn night where people link up...and it's the media capital of the world.
You combine all that and THATS why so much trash is coming out my city.
A dollar over talent and cultural relevance.

Also Asap Rocky is not nice.

Because its influenced by cacs

Its so dead its now safe to fully market it to cacs and spics..
:mjpls:

To refresh Nyc rap we need to step back and remove ourselves from it and start afresh. Rap is now too removed from the Black everyday experience.
