All of that is true, but that is true for any place, even little west bubblefukk towns. No one cares because the towns are boring or wack. They cared about L.A., and NYC, because those towns had life. They care about ATL because it has life!ITS simple.
It’s trash because out of Towners define it by things that happened 25 years ago and have no clue who anybody is or what’s going on.
An out of towner can tell u about “the tunnel” and shyt like that.
But they can’t tell u about Santos etc. All the things that went down there or any of the clubs, scenes in NY etc.
They don’t know what gangs are out here. HOW THE STREETS ARE NOW.
They can tell u about king tut and bimmy, but they can’t tell you about Rugs or other nikkas I won’t name
NY Culture is trash because nikkas really don’t know anything about what’s been happening the past ten years.
So nikkas be like “oh nikkas ain’t wearing fatigue suits and being godbody!?!?”
shyt trash...
nikkas not rapping over beats by 50 year old producers!?!?!?
shyts trash...
Meanwhile NY moved on, names, faces, legends have lived and died in this city and nikkas don’t know nothing about them. That ain’t the town.
Y’all just don’t know whats going on. And y’all dont know what NY is supposed to be or sound like anymore. So these conversations have to happen every two weeks.
I just think the people who gave us hip hop just moved on. A city is not what makes hip hop, the people do. What made the people who created hip hop want to create hip hop before they even gave it a name was technology, pride in being black(civil rights movement), wanting to be older, listening to your elders/trying to impress them(older hip hop heads/street people),and having the need to be creative so you can outdo all the competition.
This era has the best technology, but aren't into their blackness as much as they are into materialism, so they see rap as a way to get rich quick, so they just do what someone else did, and HOPE it takes off.. The big thing is people wanting to stay young, and laughing at the older people, so naturally they are gonna try to impress each other by doing what each other does. If you are trying to impress the people who came before you, you will try to out do them or be just like them, just for your era. That creates a good competition, and growth. This is the common thing I've heard all the best rappers, and producers, say. I think that is the missing piece of everything, along with the need to try different things to be creative.
I think social media creates fear of being different, because now the whole world might laugh at you, even though NOW its more of a chance of being liked because everyone is the same!
