The thing about Uncle Tom and Sambo is that thise characters define two different black archetypes under white supremacy.

While Uncle Tom didnt actively harm other blacks, he did place his white master on a pedestal. The thing is that a lot of c00ns actually practice both Sambo and Uncle Tom behaviors so they are both conflated.

Black people started letting white people tell us about our history. Just recently you have young blacks arguing with older blacks who was at the Edmond Pettus bridge because of some shyt they read some book or a white professor told them.

Ali was one of the most popular people in history. When he publicly used the insult against his opponents in press conferences....younger people began using it as an insult in the same manner that they saw Ali use it.

The term was co-opted previously as SG pointed out, but people repeating slang won't know or care to know origin or history of words.

the insult became just that when the book was dramatized. he was often portrayed as so "compassionate" that he was bereft of a spine and became subservient to the very villains he was sacrificing himself to protect slaves from.

Yeah, the book was meant to advocate against slavery, so to that end she portrayed the character in that manner to elicit sympathy from white audiences.
