I mean, did Skype or other platforms not offer a similar service? What did ZOOM do to make it stand out?

Probably immediate ease of use to start with low to no cost options, and then the name gained traction in the media. Most people don't do research on competing services so it stuck. On top of that, too many people that are new to telecommuting are so focused on video chat, when really audio and screen sharing are all you need. So the filters and backgrounds and crap are attractive to those people.

Incredibly user friendly. You can add someone via their email address or phone number to the meeting call.

In saying that, microsoft teams is clearly the superior product now. It’s cheaper and more secure. :ehh:

Seems like they focused all of their time on making Zoom user friendly and spent no time on security. Glad we got the approval to ban it in my company.

Because Google Hangouts/Meet lacks a lot of features and the whole licensing situation with it is annoying and expensive.

Zoom is a lot easier to use and setup for both individuals and conference rooms.

And does Skype even integrate into conference rooms easily?

It's user friendly so even a monkey can setup a zoom conference. Which means most Corporate users won't require constant handholding to use it. Security is secondary ease of use to 99% of companies.
