TIMESTAMPED FOR YOU

:ehh:
EDIT:

YouTube Comment - "I’d also like to note that these young/new singers don’t have mentors anymore. I remember in the 90s Brandy and Monica were working with vets like Aretha and Whitney at such a young age. Tevin Campbell had Babyface, Quincy, and prince in his corner. You don’t see that anymore. It’s a lot of egos in this era."

They can't sing because the ones being "chose" don't need to sing. I can sound off a number of women, regardless of color who can belt. Adele got such a push because he taking up a spot that Black women used to fill....her voice isn't new or unique. Some of these country bytches even got lungs but Black girls aren't being pushed on the stage for their voices anymore. They're bring promoted for the very thing generations of Black women singers have fought against, their sexuality.

But they actually getting the bag now so:yeshrug:

If video killed the radio star then the internet came through and crushed the buildings when it came to image vs talent.

Truly the most superficial medium ever created because whilst its reach is immense it spreads super thin as evidenced by decimated attention spans and the surface level wisdom it leaves in its wake. The first byte is with the eye...

Everybody wants to shine, nobody wants to grind whereas back in the days you simply had to put that work in because competition was ferocious and spots were limited. Its why the 70s rule supreme in that respect.

but this has always been the case to a degree

The question is, why is it worse now?

Like another poster mentioned. It started as: “you can sing, now let’s work on your look.”.
Today they’re selling the aesthetic of talent while being devoid of said talent.
This woman is a singer, let’s make her beautiful vs. this woman is beautiful, let’s make her a singer.
