The NYC Department of Investigation is not part of the police department, and primarily pursues white-collar crime. So why was it amassing an arsenal of weapons and body armor?

Mark Peters, who was fired last month as New York City’s investigations chief, outfitted his employees as if they were going into battle.

:wtf:

Bigger question is why did the Mayor allow that shyt? You have a 40k man police department at your disposal and can draw detectives to work with department of investigations investigators if they need to arrest someone..

Department of investigation only handle city employees accused of wrong doing while on the payroll and using city resources..

Looks like this clown thought he was on the level of police with zero training

They weren’t gearing up for war they just wanted to play as if they are the police when they are not

Look at the department of investigation logo it looks like an NYPD patch

Mr. Peters, whose tenure was not without its successes, including hard-charging investigations that exposed serious flaws in city government like failures in lead paint inspections in public housing and shortcomings in the police department’s sex crimes unit, defended the spending. He said that any law enforcement agency needed to protect its agents.

Think I see what is going on now. Anyways the guy sounds nuts and the expenses are completely over the top.

Aren't they also investigating the Trump situations? Therefore dealing with Russian assets? Maybe they're just protecting themselves in case they run into them?:jbhmm:

Some aspects of the Trump/Kushner Organization possibly but I think it's mostly the state and the feds doing the heavy lifting. This is a city agency.

Well I meant that in a facetious manner. But you're right.

Happy to help. I forgot to add that I'm nearly certain that if they requested armed help they would get it. One thing that NY doesn't lack is an armed law enforcement presence. Rarely a day passes by when I don't see dozens fo NYPD officers and or a Federal task force. I've heard New York described as Police State in some media. My personal experiences may reinforce that notion.

make no mistake about it, NYC is a police state.

NYPD ranks 65th in manpower amongst the militaries of the world...not police departments... MILITARIES.

The NYPD Is One of the World's Strongest Militaries

NYC is a police state. Blame Giuliani/Bloomberg eras and 9/11. I will say this I always recommend young black men to join the NYPD, Port Authority or MTA police because those jobs are lucrative and pay well. We need more black men in the NYPD.
