Because the narrative that he was a weirdo black pederast was a more profitable narrative for news and a certain sect or human that own and curate the message of the "news", simple.
Michael never had anyone or kept anyone in his camp who actually gave a solitary shyt about him and his image to force him into dropping that Peter Pan obsession he was adamant in displaying out in public in regards to them fukking kids, so he was convinced if he just threw money at the situation the aligations and alligators would go away and never return, hence the revolving door of accusations of people who found out the cheat code in garnering money from him while selling their kids innocence.
