How did Tyson transcend the sport in ways that SRL, DLH, or Mayweather havent?
balrog from street fighter was originally named m bison (mike bison) in japan but they had to change names around in the usa to avoid legal issues. his image, everything including his missing/gold front tooth, to the way the a voice would yell out numbers "1" "2" "5" when balrog used special punches was based on the cus d'mato number system and kevin rooney's voice

tyson was different from every other legendary champion in boxing other than jack dempsey because he could knock people out so devastatingly fight after fight. it created an aura of perfection and invincibility. jack dempsey said in his book about boxing technique that the only reason the common man wanted to watch boxing was the phenomena of the knock out.

the heavyweight division is a good division for that because heavyweights are much larger and it takes much more energy to move around a large body. my theory is that a heavyweight doesnt punch much harder than any other fighter from any other division but because they are so large they have much worse reaction times and reflexes and they are therefore much more likely to get hit flush than a smaller and quicker fighter. unlike smaller and quicker fighters heavyweights get tired much quicker because they are so large and heavy. this makes their reaction times and reflexes even worse and therefore their ability to take a punch much worse. i think one of the biggest secrets of boxing is that heavyweights actually have really really bad chins.

i think mike tyson exposed this because, as a smaller and quicker heavyweight, he was able to exploit the much weaker reaction times and reflxes innate to the fighters of this weight division.

so if i a fighter is going to transcend the sport again i think he will have to 1. be able to knock people out in a devastating way to capture the public imagination and 2. feast on a steady supply big and slow heavyweights

Movies
Comicbooks
His likeness used in iconic tv series (simpson)

Tyson headlined wrestlmania wich was a big thing back then. Floyd followed the formula, but it was nowhere near as big. The mainstream media were losing their minds when tyson was in the wwe.

Tyson is one of the reasons why wwe beat wcw in the ratings war, dude not even a wrestler.

One of the most popular video games is his

One of the most popular video game characters (balrog) is based on him

One of the most recognizable faces on the planet, tyson could go to africa n be known. Could the same be said for FM, DLH,SRL...nah

Only second to muhamed ali as most known boxer ever.

Tyson was super fast compared to other heavyweights

Tyson is tied with michael jordan as the most namedropped athlete in hip hop

When the average person thinks of bobbing and weaving with the gloves high they think of tyson

Tyson was knocking people out like people had not seen before.

Has numerous boxing gyms around the world named after him

Tyson fought internationally

In his prime people from other countries were throwing parades n shyt when the nikka touchdown

etc come on man.

Currently I don't see anyone at Cruiser or Heavy that could bring the Big Men back on top in boxing...

Even though the smaller guys can generate a lot of publicity, fame and money, there's absolutely NOTHING that holds a candle to being the undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World.

Deontay Wilder, if he can be polished up, could generate a LOT of business for this sport, but as long as the Klitschko's are here, and the titles are in Europe, it's just not happening. Europe is pumping out Big's at an alarming rate while our own is dwindling.

It's not a big deal as long as fights are being made that the people want to see, but with this current promotional cold war.............the nonsense stop progress.

I Highly doubt any fighter ever reaches the status of Ali or Tyson simply due to their antics and lifestyle OUTSIDE the ring. You could argue Mayweather though.......

If mayweather was a heavyweight he would be 5x bigger then he is now in terms of popularity.
