My internet speed has been horrendous these past few weeks. I can't download shyt; I barely can surf TheColi like I want to. Comcast says that I can buy more bandwith, but they said that part of the problem is that I play my ps3 online while I'm surfing, and that slows it up. I never had that problem before, though. We just exchanged our router for a newer one, but I still think the router is the problem. We have a Netgear :flabbynsick:

Will buying a new router help? I don't want to trade in our router for another piece of shyt. If so, what brand should I go after? Any particular suggestions?

there is a combination of free scans that you can download, install and run that will clean your shyt up good.

Yeah it will I was using an apple airport express and it dowmloaded at 54mbps so my devices would routinely get 30-35 Mbps at most....I changed routers to this cheap Cisco router that's 300mbps and I'm routinely getting mid 50s...

So yeah to me it does.

Could be a number of things: router or modem may be :flabbynsick:, computer (malware, spyware, virus, etc.)...

I had slow speeds and found out that the coax cable going from the wall to my modem was trash. Was about to call a tech out and everything (the guy on the phone suspected the line to my house was bad). I would start troubleshooting from free (computer virus scans, etc.) and work my way up (check cables, call tech out (if it isn't a charge), replace hardware)

Do these in order to troubleshoot 1. Run a speed test. Depending on your plan you should get what they advertise. 2. If using wi-fi if possible hook directly in the modem via ethernet and check speeds again. This will help tell you if your have a modem issue or router issue. If both check out than its something up with your computer. Are you having slow speeds on the PS3? Use the process of elimination to narrow down the offending device so you are not needless troubleshooting.

Got a laptop? if so plug it direct to the modem and reset the modem and go to speedtest.net and run a speedtest.

Having a Netgear is irrelevant. the question is how old is it. if its a wireless N you should be getting good speeds over wifi.

That may be so but 20 up and 3 down is still fast enough to not experience slowdown for internet tasks the op is talking about.
