Aint none. And at this point, there won't be.Black Thought is a dope MC, no question. Skills, breath control, freestyles, the man's a technician. But all this glazing lately is wild. If he's really top 10, then where are the classic songs?
Not just great verses, I mean records that moved the culture like Jay-Z. People out here saying he's better...off what songs, exactly? Name 'em.
Because bars alone don’t build a legacy.
Respectfully.
Black Thought is dope.
black thought would even tell will.i.am nah.
This shows a misunderstanding of hip hop history. When the Roots came out was the exact time when hip hop became entirely street focused in the mainstream. It’s all record labels wanted to sign and radio stations wanted to play.Black Thought is a dope MC, no question. Skills, breath control, freestyles, the man's a technician. And on and on. Even Nas with the Nas Escobar persona. You had to be some version of a street kingpin in your bars. Those that weren’t didn’t get the same shine. I would even submit that people fell for the Okee doke. That’s what being “real” was to the masses.
Thought never was on that. And to me the level of notoriety he got despite that is even more impressive. A lot of dope rappers as good or better than those cats didn’t get that same notoriety due to image and subject matter. And in my opinion over emphasis on crime related subject matter stagnated the whole genre.
I don’t even know what this is supposed to mean. I gave you facts. If Jay z rapped the exact same way same beats but was talking about the shyt Mos Def was he wouldn’t be anywhere near as big. He said so himself lol. People became infatuated with the street dude shooting n!ggas, selling drugs and ducking cops. And most people are followers so they went along for the ride. But that shyt never had anything to do with how good a rapper you are.Right!
The Roots were the authentic 'real' ones.
That's why they made that video in '96 hating on everybody.
Right?
They were beyond the shenanigans.
