I think they could be if they wanted to, but I don't believe they really want to anymore. It was great for their brand PR-wise, but not financially a homerun. I think XBOX as a whole was never about making money, it was pure marketing because from that stand point, XBOX has significantly helped M$'s brand the past 13yrs. Now, the XBOX brand can start to suffer from a public relations angle which would not be worth the investment if it doesn't have a hugely positive reflection of M$. Then they'd just be throwing away money on another XBOX on TOP of having a negative effect on marketing and public relations.

The 360 was profitable
Yes I believe it was. What I mean to say is that even in the case of Xbox as a brand isn't profitable per its division within MS. Its existence made MS as a whole more profitable due to marketing. Meaning I don't believe MS was concerned about consoles turning a profit so long as the marketing benefited the corporation overall, which it did. 360 turning a profit was a bonus to offset what has been spent in that division the past decade. It is an application of "Spend money to make money." I did something like this for a small business when I was still consulting. I asked the Director and Owner to forfeit his bonus to spend on a venture that would net him more clients without having to go through traditional marketing alleys that he couldn't control and would cost just as much. Think of Xbox as an in-house Dynamic Marketing tool for MS.

I see what you are saying, but Microsoft would have been profitable this gen from the start if it wasn't for all the mistakes they made when they announced the console.

I know we having fun with the xbox one shyt, but shyts not that deep. Them dudes have already to started to turn it around over there and i would argue there fall from grace wasnt as big as Sony in 06 (i dont have numbers so i might be wrong).

Thats only because the bar was set higher for Sony. PS2 was the most succesful console of alltime. And The ps1 was second I believe

Not as big as Sony because Sony was arrogant. Microsoft acknowledged their mistakes even before launch

there was rumblings about selling the xbox brand so I wouldn't be shocked if someone bought them out and rebranded before next gen...

Microsoft definitely innovated with online and game interfacing you can't take that away from them...I don't like that they didn't focus on internal exclusives and helped usher in the overpopulation of first person shooters though...there used to be a lot more balance in prior generations where say a game like Goldeneye was amazing but you had a lot of different games to play in terms of variety same when timesplitters was popping early in the ps2 days...FPS wasn't everybodies main focus

They'll need 2 failures in a row before they are gone. Sega had the saturn and the dreamcast before it was over (not to mention sega cd). They'll be around next gen

They seem to be turning it around pretty good to me. I'm glad Sony is winning which only means Microsoft will do whatever to get sales. I cut my xbox on yesterday like :gladbron:.

Seriously Sony is living off of hype and just waiting for the game to live up to it. With the Order previews not looking good. I don't know.
