On the most recent episode of Talk is Jericho (baybay Talk is Jericho mama, Talk is ME!) Shinsuke Nakamura was discussing his wrestling style and he criticized young wrestlers for doing too much and focusing on moves as opposed to slowing down and engaging the crowd and focusing on telling a story. I can't say that I disagree. Guys like Will Ospreay are killing themselves in the ring. Ospreay apparently has a laundry list of injuries and he's only been wrestling for a couple of years. I hope that working in NJPW helps Ospreay, Ricochet (who has already benefited) and guys like them learn to slow down and focus on engaging the crowd. Ospreay may not be able to wrestle for much longer if he keeps doing all if the stuff he does. I think the younger guys need to listen to what Jericho and Nak said. Focus on telling a story and don't kill yourself just to pop the crowd. I wanted to post this so that people can discuss it and also to show some less informed people that guys like Nakamura and other NJPW guys aren't typical Indy spot monkeys, and that storytelling is an important part of NJPW and all major wrestling companies. People seem to think that New Japan is some high spot workrate exhibition company even though psychology and storytelling play a huge part in NJPW.
"Dude is only 23 and has all these injuries. Should have listened to Vader when he was trying to give him some constructive criticism. He took that shyt the wrong way.
Vader: "Slow down breh. You doing too much."
Will: "Nah, fukk you!"
Vader: ""
Dude is gonna be paralyzed by 25, I'm not wishing that on him but that's the route he's going.
He'll learn sooner or later as the injuries keep piling up, there's no excuse for a 23 year old to be having that many injuries. There's a reason why old heads like Regal(48), Finlay(57), Daniels(46), Jericho(45), Goldust(47), Muta(53), Tajiri(45), Liger(51) can still wrestle at their age, they worked a lower impact style. Them doing that helped their career's have longevity, Terry Funk(72) still wrestles. This dude is going down a route that will not be kind to him in the long run.
