just watched his interview about the movie. he said he took the role because its a freedom movie, not a slave movie. apparently the man he plays (his pic is famous for showing the lashes on his back), was free. Slavery had been abolished but the south wouldnt let it go, so many slaves knowing this, took matters into their own hands in various ways. many fled to towns where north soldiers were that were closing in on the confederates.

Knowing this, I'd like to see it now. That actually sounds interesting.

Why Egypt and not any one of those big Western African kingdoms. The whole infatuation with Egypt always felt low-key weird to me. Brehs want to be Hebrews, Egyptians, why not from the Mali or Ghana Empire.

I agree but as we saw with the Woman King the outrage will be that slave traders shouldn’t have movies.

Overall I'll give it a B. Wasn't bored at all. Yes, of course it's slavery and thr brutality. But Will turned it into a Will Smith story. Where nothing is gonna stop him. Whether he's playing Richard or a slave l. But I def didn't know the history behind this film so that's good as well. But again this is Will Smith survival flick.
