And what does a purchase of this size really mean to gaming as a whole?

I actually think Sony is potentially in serious trouble this generation, It's year 1 and 1 or 2 big sony AAA exclusives might not be enough to keep people interested in staying in the playstation ecosystem for the long run.

Blizzard/Activision acquisition is so huge and well thought out (prob a lot of luck involved too with all that's going on) it effects things on a MARCO gaming level world wide. Regardless of how xbox decides to play there hand, its a winning one that at this point is theirs to lose.

Overwatch is huge world wide, especially overseas.
Diablo and Warcraft... the same.
COD.. yeahhhh I don't even need to go into details.

Now why I don't think all of those Ip's are going completely exclusive anytime soon, meaning in the couple years. What will happen is..

Day and Date free gamepass releases, exclusive content and early access, maps and dlc available 1st on Xbox and PC.

Imagine having to preorder on Playstation, which gives microsoft Money anyway to play early access or just you know getting gamepass and potentially having early access for being a member.

M$ isn't going to rip those Ip's away from PS completely but they are going to make it wayyyyy more attractive to play on the xbox and PC

This shakes up the market ALOT, most people play games casually or competitively to play with friends. Every single one of Blizzard/Activision big console games are those kind of game, and previously a huge part of that player base was on PS because that's where there friends where.

But it's going to be really hard to tell people to pay 70 for new COD's and Overwatch or diablo's when they can cop Gamepass for 15/20 bucks and play and have access to whatever they want.

This also means that blizzard/activision's backlog gets added to Gamepass. Another huge W

This is a MAJOR shakeup that on the surface might not seem a big as it is. This completely changes the gaming industry even more so than almost any other single company MS or Sony could have bought..

You are witnessing gaming history in the making:banderas:

Purchase for what? Microsoft purchasing Activision/Blizzard is a move that is more beneficial for online gaming and multiplayer.

Sony has always been about the single player experience and storytelling. Both can excel in their own lanes.

Sony just needs to keep doing what they have been doing since the PS4 launched. Let xbox throw their money around. Sony can't compete with that. But they can continue to produce the most quality titles which will keep the real enthusiast gamers coming back for more.

I don't see any of those games ever going 100% exclusive but we'll see.
As it pertains to consoles specifically, let's be honest, the real game in question is Call Of Duty.
Hypothetically, that game going exclusive would be a major blow to Sony regardless of what you think of the game.
That being said, time exclusivity isn't going to move the needle for Xbox in the long run IMO unless that timed exclusivity is upwards of a month. A couple days or a week wouldn't move me at least (not that I'm the perfect indicator of the market as a whole...but I can only speak for myself anyway so...).
In terms of games which is what we all really care about right, I don't think this move will change much in terms of the way console sales are currently going.
You're crazy if you think this is some kind of undeniable nail in the coffin for Sony.
MS definitely drew blood, but lets be serious. Sony stans weren't losing sleep over these games. It's their narrative driven titles that give the console it's allure more than anything else. Sony has always done that well and will continue to do so. It's a wild move for MS that definitely deserves the attention its getting but I think once the smoke clears it'll be less of a deal pretty quickly. BUT...we'll see how ruthless MS gets. All this is subject to change.

Sony is going to have to find their niche akin to Nintendo. This is a rising tide lifts all boats situation. I've seen this a lot today.

He is a social media manager for Call of Duty.

Sony's bulk of their money still comes from 3rd parties. If it's not bolted to the ground, meaning Sony and Nintendo franchises, we will just assume that everything is on the table for Microsoft going forward. As I said in an earlier post, list wars are not relevant anymore. Their IP catalog is ridiculous now. Microsoft is going to change Sony's focus as a company. This is how Microsoft got Google out of the paint with Stadia. If they hadn't realized before, Sony ain't competing with Xbox no more, they are competing with Microsoft proper now and Microsoft is getting its Microsofting on now. Rules of engagement changed forever today in gaming.

Gotdamn Steve Ballmer was holding Xbox back.

The Stadia thing is hilarious because they truly were marketing it as a rival to the next-gen consoles in the beginning, and shortly after the Bethesda acquisition they said “You know what, we’re cool with simply being a 3rd party cloud platform, have fun making exclusives:hubie:

I lowkey think this move will have the opposite effect on Amazon and they are going to be the next one to make a major play:sas2:
