I would definitely like to see it happen. PC players have been able to play with other PC players regardless of hardware and internet connection differences for years. You even have console players playing with PC players now.

how?how?
Rocket League [PC/PS4]
Street Fighter V [PC/PS4]
Shadowrun [PC/360]
Are a few that come to mind. I know there are a bunch more if I take the time to google them.
Also, there's a lot of talk about cross platform play between XB1 and PC once the Windows 10 update on XB1 completely rolls out. I haven't looked into it much though. The point is, its been, and continues to be done. The question is why Sony and MS don't allow gamers to play against each other regardless of console. The answer has to be because as much as they pretend they don't care about console wars, they understand the intense brand loyalty gamers have, and will continue to capitalize on it so long as it continues to be financially profitable for them. Opening up cross platform play would mean most people would just go with the cheapest console, whereas now, you have fanboys that will get their favorite console regardless of the price, or lack of exclusives.
Microsoft and Sony don't want cross-platform play. They want you to cop their console to play with your friends.
This.
Virtual machines make it possible, even easy, but as usual business stands in the way of greatness.
fukking shame, just a imagine a re-make of the game warriors, only online mode & cross platform The big game I can recall in the recent history was Final Fantasy 14 ARR PC and PS4 play. It was HUGERocket League [PC/PS4]
Street Fighter V [PC/PS4]
Shadowrun [PC/360]

What is this the last thread xbots are clinging on to?Will never happen, Live shyts on PSN, Microsoft would never merge their Internet services with them.

I'm not a programmer either but I don't agree with your point. PCs made with completely different hardware and OS can play with each other. There are games now that are cross play between multiple PC set ups, multiple Mac set ups, and every mobile OS in existence. The point is, this is a problem specific to console gaming. Its been tried and proven to work flawlessly on every other platform.I'm not a programmer, but two different console games would run on two different scripts. Each has its own developers, and their own defects. Basically you're making two programs that behave similar to each other.
This runs up development costs, and for what benefits? None. In fact, it reduces the demand for consoles, so you're running up costs just so consumers can save![]()
