I read about this in Kareem's autobiography; they had a history together. Kareem always looked up to Wilt, used to hang out at his restaurant in Harlem. One anecdote was how Wilt used to give him his old clothes, but their body types were so dissimilar that they looked ridiculous on him. He also attested to how Wilt used to stay with a bad broad around him. Kareem also felt like Wilt thought that he went out of his way to show him up in their NBA encounters.

Wilt's role wasn't to score during his years against Kareem so we never got to seem them actually attempt similar volumes of shots vs each other but Wilt played OUTSTANDING defense those years

Even guys nobody ever talks about back then were dominant centers by today's standards. That was a big man era, you had to battle against Wilt and Russell and Jabbar a half dozen to a dozen times each per year or you weren't going to survive in that league:

Wilt played him 100 times, Jabbar played him 24 times. And HE'S the kind of player they'd have historic nights against.
