I would be interested in seeing how much these change when you remove games after the team was eliminated from playoff contention.

Somebody like Larry was basically competing for titles every year from jump vs Jordan, Bron, and Durant having "lost" years.

Shoutout to Chef being way up there :ohhh: I wonder if it has anything to do with how he scores his points

Do they have a list of how many 40 point games each player had? That would give a little better context.

I know Wilt, Jordan and Kobe are the top three for 40 point games.

I think this is meaningless and really can't be compared from one player to another.

Sometimes you score 40 cause your team really needs it...but does that mean they'll win, or sometimes just that you're giving them hope in an unwinnable situation?

Sometimes you score 40 cause the other team's defense is crap and you just want to stat pad.

Maybe the team doesn't rely on your scoring as much, so when you DO score 40, you almost always win.

Maybe you're shooting 30 times every time you go out, so they need you to score 40 otherwise you shoot them out of the game.

Maybe you're on a good team, maybe you're on a bad team.

Maybe you've done it 20 times, maybe you've done it 200 times....and did you only do it 20 because you were picking your spots the right way? Did you do it 100 times because you were chasing your own stats to the detriment of your team?

There are so many factors there that change whether this is "good" or "bad" thing that overall a career-long winning percentage in those moments is totally meaningless.

Not surprised by Shaq. When he got going, no one caused more physical destruction

Yeah, that’s a “other team losing it’s will” 40. At least if it was a perimeter guy, you can say “oh he’s just on fire, it’ll stop eventually” and hope you have a chance. But when the last line of defense is on his back after another dunk by Shaq, that must feel helpless as a team :shaq:
