lol.

All the suckas defending winodws 8. Looks like 8.1 is getting back to its roots and toning down metro or whateva. Windows 8 was poorly executed.

If they had given the non metro option it would be a good upgrade but using it now if you don't work around Metro it is seriously counter productive in so many ways.

Deploy that shyt with the classic desktop interface and you should have no issues.

Y'all should try this desktop application called modernmix. I put that joint on my laptop along with startisback (classic shell is good too)and it's just like you just described. I did that with the chrome browser and my joint is clean right now. All the advantages of windows 8 without that metro mess.

I'm not going to knock windows 8, but I will say that once I upgraded, that shyt had me seeing red. But I learned to adapt.

Why? I find myself using metro as a second desktop for shortcuts or quickly typing to find programs, WAY faster than old start menu and its thousand clicks to get where you want

Too many clicks to get between windows and programs. Yes the Metro type search is good, but I search for practically nothing, as I have all of my must have programs on the desktop. Music is in music, pictures in pictures, etc so file wise my structure is simple and fast. Settings are out of the way, in a bad sense. It is harder to manage the PC if you're a power user using Metro, as most of everything is hidden and you only get the "first step" typically within the settings/options of Metro.

On top of that, the desktop file explorer defaults to using Metro UI when you open files, which I find bizarre. Just another way of trying to met Metro down our throats.

There was no need to force it upon users IMO. Desktop/Laptops should have Metro optional and desktop standard, and tablets and touch screen laptops/desktops should have Metro standard and Desktop optional (for non ARM chips). People have interoperability across devices if they need it, luddites keep their old approach, and you still get a fresh take in Windows for newer technology.

I find it exactly opposite, I am a power user and its really quicker to get where I want on Win 8. Did you know about right click on the bottom-left corner to bring all the settings you want?

And as for metro running default music, pictures and video... Come on, everyone uses 3rd part apps for this anyway, and after you install them you are given a choice which app you want to open that file by default
